Crossfit, Derby, Workout

It’s been a crazy few weeks when it comes to my workouts/sports/fitness! I’ll try to keep it short and sweet but there’s quite a lot going on…

Derby:

I played in my first full bout since… almost a full year ago(wow!), last night. It was great to be back on the track against outside opponents with my teammates. <3 (Last year mid-season I went out with an MCL sprain and only was able to play a few jams in our last bout of the 2012 season… and then I went to Israel at the start of our 2013 season and wasn’t anywhere near ready for consideration for our first bout this year.) Last night’s bout was against the Petticoat Punishers (the A team from the BayState Brawlers), and it wasn’t quite our best showing. HOWEVER, I think we had some great moments and that we really were humbled as a team in a lot of respects, at least I know I was. We have a new list of skills to work on and new things to aspire to, so I’m really grateful to have had the opportunity to bout against them, and of course to have seen my amazing Habeas Corpsemaker (and the buttugly Speeder Parker, I gueeess). Photos forthcoming, promise.

Oh! As a sidenote, in practice a week ago I got this sick bruise… and then today someone kicked it again! It’s becoming somewhat of a target the way it’s healing, dontcha think?

Work Gym:

I’m trying to fit this in once a week between derby and Crossfit… which is kind of funny when you think about how much time I DON’T have. However, I have an awesome work gym buddy who doesn’t let me skip out, even if I do take it easy sometimes. I have two different workouts that I switch between when I’m there… One is a speed ladder agility series that I do with my skates on, and I alternate in some tomahawk turns with that as breather breaks. It’s pretty rough but I feel like it’s slowly allowing me to become more confident with my footwork, which I sorely need. The other one is just a straight interval recumbent bike cardio workout, which again, I sorely need. So getting there once per week is definitely to my benefit. I do need to figure out how to fit in something for my stability/chomping though. I’m considering having my gym buddy throw playground balls at me while I stand in derby position, so if anyone has any better suggestions, please let me know!

Crossfit:

The big kahuna, I know I know. My membership ran out on 4/11 (coincidentally my Sorority’s Founders’ Day, Theta Nu!), and I went to my last livingsocial eligible workout that evening. I’ll get to my stats in a minute, but I just want to say that I’m really loving the program. I’m starting to get to know people (it’s taking me a little longer than normal because I can only go twice a week), I’m starting to find where my limits are/how to stretch them,  and the trainers are starting to really get to know my abilities. HOWEVER, I really do think that being in Israel and then having jetlag/taglitsickness really set me back – I was out of the loop for 3 weeks and I ALSO gained weight in Israel (only 3 pounds but it still isn’t helping my cause here!). So I’ll give you my stats here with those caveats…

Height: 5’5” (Stiiiilllllll can’t seem to grow! hahaha!)

Weight: 153 (I was up to 158 after Israel so this is actually freaking awesome) [-2lbs]

Waist: 31″[-1″]

Hips: 37.25” [-0.75″]

R. Thigh: 23” [-1″]

Upper Arm: 12” [No Change]

So the verdict on Crossfit is… my box is awesome and apparently has secret 2x/week pricing if they feel that you are the right candidate for it! So I’ll be signing up for that when I go on Thursday (I’m going to do R/Sa and see how that goes), and I’ll update in another month. I think those stats will definitely be more of a real assessment “what Crossfit can do for you” since I was only really going to full classes for 2.5 weeks by 4/11 with all the craziness. I also ordered a workout tracker journal/PR recorder so I can keep that at the box and see my progress there too. I’ll try to post fun things from there from time to time as well.

With all that said, let me leave you with my first weight-lifting blister…

Isn’t that adorable?!
