I know I shared some choice ankle bruises a little while ago, but these past few weeks have been completely brutal. We’ve been learning some new techniques at practice, I’ve been personally trying to get more aggressive, and in the past 3 days I’ve been at 3 different derby events!
On Friday I went with one of my teammates to an open scrimmage hosted by the Jerzey Derby Brigade in Morristown, NJ. We had a total blast and I got to meet some awesome new skaters, and see some of my JDB friends as well. <3
On Saturday my team went out on Long Island for a scheduled scrimmage against Strong Island. The SIRD girls are incredibly nice and we even did a joint warmup before the scrimmage began. They have a super nice practice facility and I’m incredibly jealous — it even has a pool! My team did really well communicating and holding walls during the scrimmage, and I think we all left pretty satisfied.
On Sunday (yesterday), my team had our regularly scheduled practice. Practice harder than you play is definitely a mantra we ascribe to, and practices are always super tough (yesterday was no exception).
All in all, I’m pretty wiped! Annnddd pretty colorful! I know I said I’d show you the current bruise collection, so here’s a small selection of the current craziness I’m sporting (yes, there are lots more than those pictured here):
Left Arm (Healing):
Right Leg (Some Healing, Some New):
Left Hip (New):
Right Glute (New):
Annnndddd there you have it! As I’ve said before, derby isn’t for wusses. Enjoy your week!
