I feel like the past few weeks have been filled with accomplishing long-term goals. On Sunday, May 5th, my Sorority Sisters and I, as part of a bonding weekend, participated in the Dirty Girl Mud Run in Scranton, PA. If I’m being honest, I have to say it was both everything I hoped it would be, and also completely different than I had anticipated, all in one.
What I didn’t expect was that the “run” wasn’t quite a run. I suppose I didn’t think it through very much in advance, but running through mud is sort of a dangerous proposition… The Scranton course had us pretty much hiking up and down a mountain, while slogging through mud pits, before we hit the main obstacle area, so it was more of a mudhike/mudobstacle course… which frankly turned out great for us and didn’t impede our enjoyment of the event at all – it was just surprising!
As far as what I did expect, the event was an absolute blast! We had decided to plan our Sisterhood Weekend around both the run and Jersey Cares day so we could get in some service and some bonding time and we DEFINITELY got what we asked for in that department. What better way to bond with your Sisters than to get completely mussed up together and achieve crazy physical goals? My team captain definitely kept us together and we were disgusting and happy when we finally crossed the finish line.
Final verdict?
I would DEFINITELY recommend the Dirty Girl Mud Run to anyone looking to try out their first obstacle-course style race. My Sisters and I felt like it was perfect for us to get our feet wet, and we’re planning to look into another event of the same style, possibly with more obstacles or a slightly longer course, for next year.
