In April of 2012, I found out about an event called the New Jersey Young Professionals’ Multi-Group Mixer, and I proposed it to my Chapter of my Sorority, the Xi Xi Chapter of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Incorporated, as a potential event. Unfortunately the event was occurring too soon after this discovery for us to be able to participate. However, this year, we were informed of the event over a month in advance, and my Sisters and I were able to not only attend, but to assist in sponsorship of the event and thus have a marketing table to inform mixer attendees about our Sisterhood. What’s really unique about my Chapter is that although many of us pledged into the Sisterhood as Undergraduate students, Theta Nu Xi has a Graduate, Alumnae and Professional program, which not only houses our post-undergrad Chapters, but we also initiate women on this level. In short, if you have completed your undergraduate education, you are likely eligible for membership in Theta Nu Xi (there are lots of other criteria for membership, but eligibility is a whole different animal), which is pretty rare.
So for this reason, not only were we attending the event to network personally and find cosponsors for events, we were also hoping to meet some new women who might be interested in our Sisterhood. Personally, I think the event was a huge success, and I can’t wait to hear from some of the ladies we met and I am also incredibly thankful to the Sisters who came out and made the event possible.
